Species Ranking

A comprehensive ranking system that measures the technological and evolutionary advancement of life, from single-celled organisms to god-like entities, on a scale from 0 to 10.

11 LevelsTier 0 through Tier 10
3 ErasLife, physics, transcendence

The Full Tier List

Each level marks a major leap in capability, from biological survival, to planetary dominance, to mastery over spacetime, dimensional resonance, and possibly reality itself.

0–3: Biological Rise 4–7: Cosmic Expansion 8–10: Reality Transcendence
0

Failed Life

Biological dead end

Origin
  • Single-celled but unable to replicate.
  • No true evolutionary future.
  • Cannot progress beyond its initial state.
A dead branch of life before life can truly begin.
1

Basic Life

Reproduction begins

Microbial
  • Single-celled organisms that can reproduce.
  • Consumes other matter or organisms to survive.
  • Evolutionary competition starts here.
The first true step from chemistry into living systems.
2

Passive Multicellular

Livestock-adjacent life

Animals
  • Multicellular organisms such as herd animals or simple farm animals.
  • Can survive, move, and reproduce, but defend themselves poorly.
  • Usually shaped more by the environment than by dominance.
Life has become more complex, but not yet truly dangerous.
3

Apex Primitive

Dominant but pre-technological

Predatory
  • Intelligent enough to hunt, plan, and defend itself.
  • Often becomes an apex predator on its homeworld.
  • No major technology or off-world capability yet.
A species that rules by instinct, strength, and developing intelligence.
4

Early Spacefaring

Planet-to-moon reach

Launch Age
  • Comparable to advanced or near-future humans.
  • Can travel between nearby planets and moons.
  • Not yet capable of stable large-scale colonisation.
The home system opens, but expansion is still fragile.
5

Relativistic Civilisation

Near-light-speed expansion

Physics Bound
  • Uses powerful fuel sources to approach light speed.
  • Can colonise planets across its own solar system.
  • Interstellar travel is possible, but slow and expensive.
  • Still limited by conventional physics and long travel times.
Fast enough to cross stars eventually, but not fast enough to ignore distance.
6

Spacetime Navigators

Quantum wormhole travel

Breakthrough
  • Can distort the universe around them using quantum wormholes.
  • Intergalactic travel becomes practical for the first time.
  • Travel typically takes hours rather than generations.
  • Often belongs to a wider network of alien societies.
  • May use built-in neural translators for seamless communication.
The point where a civilisation stops merely moving through space and starts folding it.
7

Precision Transitors

Stable and accurate spacetime control

Mastery
  • Can perform the same spacetime distortions far more accurately.
  • Advanced systems handle the calculations required for near-instant travel.
  • Journeys that once took hours now take seconds or minutes.
  • Large portions of the universe become realistically accessible.
Wormholes become routine, precise, and scalable.
8

Multiversal Engineers

Perfected spacetime + early dimensional travel

Threshold
  • Have perfected their spacetime travel systems.
  • Can cross the universe effectively instantly.
  • Possess a slower, more basic method of distorting reality itself.
  • Can shift molecular vibration or quantum state to align with another universe.
  • Multiversal travel exists, but remains slower and less refined than normal transit.
No longer limited to one universe, though dimensional travel is still in its early era.
9

Multiversal Entities

Reality-spanning existence

Transcendent
  • Can travel between universes easily and repeatedly.
  • Usually functionally unkillable due to their technology.
  • Likely possess advanced reality manipulation or extreme augmentation.
  • Exist beyond what lower civilisations would consider conventional life.
At this level, death, distance, and dimensional boundaries are engineering problems.
10

Unknown

Beyond recorded understanding

???
  • No confirmed upper limit is known.
  • May exist outside spacetime, dimensional structure, or causality.
  • Could create universes, erase them, or transcend reality entirely.
Tier 10 is not fully describable from the viewpoint of lower civilisations.

How the Scale Evolves

The system isn’t only about travel speed. It progresses through three major eras: biological complexity, technological reach, and ultimately the ability to alter spacetime and reality itself.

Biological Rise

Tiers 0 to 3 track the emergence of life, from failed cells to apex primitive organisms that dominate their home environments without advanced tools.

Cosmic Expansion

Tiers 4 to 7 mark the move into space, first through local travel, then near-light-speed colonisation, then full spacetime engineering and accurate intergalactic transit.

Reality Transcendence

Tiers 8 to 10 deal with the perfection of cosmic movement and the first true steps beyond one universe, culminating in an upper bound that lower intelligences may never fully understand.
